Oleg Makarevich was born in 1934. In 1956 he entered the Taganrog State Radio Engineering Institute and in 1961 he graduated it with the diploma of electrical engineer. From 1962 till now Makarevich has been working in the Taganrog State Radio Engineering Institute (from 2007 it is Taganrog Technological Institute of Southern Federal University). He worked as an assistant, senior engineer, head of the digital integrating machines laboratory, head of the multiprocessors systems department of the MCS research institute. Makarevich received the candidate of Engineering Science degree in 1970 and the Doctor of the Engineering Science in 1983. In 1983 he received the academic title of the professor. From 1997 Makarevich is a chair of the IT Security department, director of the South-Russian regional scientific-educational center of information security problems in the system of Higher School of education.
Makarevich is an author of more than 300 scientific works among them 75 inventions and 6 monographs. He was a design manager of several inventions (for example ES – 2703 and K-502). Makarevich was decorated with the medal “For consolidation of the state system of information security of the Second Class”.
He developed the scientific and educational school “Intellectual systems of the protection of information on the base of neuronet technology”.
